 opinion please ... marriage
Back to Full Blog

ok blogging friends, I am looking for your opinions - nothing is right or wrong, and no, I am not writing a book.

I would like to know, what is your opinion of marriage?

Do you think marriage an antiquated ritual?

Are you married? and if yes, is it happily married (be honest, you can pm me if you want)

If your not married, are you living together?

And for all my gay and lesbian friends, if your state recognizes marriage by two same sex partners, have you tied the not? if not why?

Thanks all!

I'm 41,in a live in relationship, and not planning on any wedding bells.I've been divorced now for 7 years,so I'm not in any hurry to make that leap again.I do believe Marriage as our age group was taught,is almost a thing of the past. Seems like people marry now w/out the vows really in the mind, or heart.Ever heard that song by the "Judds": GRANDPA ? It pretty much covers my thoughts on the subject.I'm at a point in my life where I have chosen to stay in a relationship that I no longer believe in for the time being, to avoid the drama of a break-up for awhile.I know it's sad, but I'm looking forward to NOT having a romantic love in my life.I believe in my heart there IS someone out there for me,I'm just to tired of it all to look any further.

There was a time when I believed wholly in marriage and the accompanying vows. Three divorces and one separation later and I have asked myself if I even have what it takes to sustain a relationship. Sadly, the answer for me at least appears to be no.

I am divorced as well, though I am remarrying next month. I think this. There is too much emphasis placed on "being married" and if you decide not to something is "wrong with you." Marriage is not for everyone and if a person is happy just dating or even not dating that is what they should do.

It is the same thing with children. I love my son more than anything, but there are people who should not have children. Society dictates way too much. Considering over half of all marriages end in divorce, we can't exactly say marriage is overly successful. I have trust that my soon to be wife is what I have been looking for.

For some strange reason, I like being married. I'm 42 and I've been legally married for 3.5 years. We lived together for more than a year and a half before we got married. Our wedding was a spur of the moment thing -- courthouse, me being 8 months pregnant.

Maybe because we have a full house -- 3 year old, my mother, his father, dog, bunny -- it's been source of support for me. I have a stressful job where I need to interact and negotiate with all types of people. When I get a home, I return to "my clan." The folks who are legally and by blood bound to me. All together, we navigate this life.

My husband and I are very different -- I'm 14 years older than him! We fight a lot. We are both handfuls. But at the end of the day, we love each other and are a team. It's really great.

My husband and I will celebrate our 17th anniversary the end of this month. It has been very tough going for many years but we both stubbornly hung in there. It is going really good now. It would have gotten better sooner except we are two stubborn people. As we aged we learned to loosen up and communicate better. I can't imagine sharing my life with anyone else!

I love being married. I have been happily married to my 3rd husband for 3 years, I have been divorced twice. After my last divorce I was single for 5 years, but I was almost always involved in a relationship. I enjoy having someone to share my life with.
